BALANCING THE BUDGET: A RETURN TO FISCAL SANITY

Robert P. Watson, Ph.D., Director of the American Studies Program at Lynn University and author/editor of over 25 books on American politics and history

  • We need a balanced budget and the principle of "PAY-GO" - for every increase in spending, there must be a corresponding cut or source of funding

  • We must convene a task force of experts to propose 100 feasible, relatively painless cuts to be made to reduce our deficit

  • After the Bush years, we must bring fiscal sanity to the federal budget through reforms in the budget process and a comprehensive plan for new budget priorities and spending cuts
