IT BEGINS WITH EDUCATION: COMPETING IN THE GLOBAL MARKET

• To address our teacher shortage crisis, we must establish a National Educators Trust Fund to put more quality educators in classrooms and a forgiveness policy for teachers owing student loans
  
  
• We should create a National Teacher Corps, modeled on the Peace Corps and Americorps programs to provide opportunities for young people to serve as in-class aides for our nation’s teachers
  
  
• We must oppose standardized multiple-choice testing that forces teachers to "teach to the test" to the neglect of promoting critical thinking skills for students
