10 Innovations Election Reform

Think Act Lead encourages elected officials and candidates to pledge themselves to these reforms as a "Voter's Bill of Rights on Elections!"
  1. Meaningful campaign finance reform. Candidates raise millions of dollars from fat-cats and big corporate PACs, which makes those in office beholden to big donors.

  2. Taking the shameful practice of gerrymandering out of the hands of politicians and using scholars, three-judge panels, and citizen’s oversight boards to reapportion legislative districts.

  3. Tougher regulations on lobbyists and the "political junket" trips members of Congress take that are paid for by special interests.

  4. Accurate voter lists and statewide computer databases that link voter lists.

  5. Helping communities to obtain new, accurate voting technology and machinery, while making sure there are enough precincts and voting machines to cut down on delays at the polls.

  6. Full compliance with the Voting Rights Act, including voter access to the polls, disability accommodation, and uniform non-discriminatory voting standards.

  7. Better training for poll workers and using government employees as poll workers.

  8. Making Election Day a holiday and permitting same-day voter registration.

  9. Making provisional ballots and voter affidavits readily available in the event of discrepancies at the polls.

  10. Using manual/hand recounts and paper ballot trails to assure accurate votes.
