Think Act Lead encourages elected officials and candidates to pledge themselves to these reforms as part of a "Voter's Bill of Rights on Energy!"
We are being guaged at the pump and it is endangering our economy. It is time for us to find the courage to demand that the federal government regulate and cap the price of gasoline.
Expand the Federal Production Tax Credit for alternative/renewable energy R&D, fuel efficient automobiles, new hybrid cars, retooling old, dirty energy plants, and modernizing factories.
Rid ourselves from Mideast oil dependency – which has become a national embarrassment and matter of national security.
Offer tax breaks for homeowners and businesses making energy improvements.
Increase CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy), which targets fuel efficiency standards for our automotive fleet.
Task the U.S. Department of Energy to develop a comprehensive plan with not just the energy industry at the table, as was the case during the Bush years, but with environmental groups, citizens groups, and the scientific community to study and recommend energy efficiency.
Provide incentives for U.S. auto manufacturers to produce hybrid or electric cars, with subsidies or tax breaks to make them affordable.
We must oppose drilling in ANWR, one of the last, true pristine wild areas. But, we should also oppose drilling in ANWR for economic reasons. We would get less oil from ANWR than we would conserve if we simply increased fuel efficiency standards by a few miles per gallon.
Federal support for our nation’s antiquated, overburdened, and vulnerable electrical grid.
We must protect Florida’s coasts and waters, and "decouple" drilling off Florida’s coast with any other oil drilling efforts. President Bush and his big oil supporters were determined to get more oil, and that included in Florida’s Gulf Coast. Offshore drilling in Florida’s waters would destroy our $53 billion tourism industry and damage our sandy beaches and coral reefs.
