10 Innovations on Leadership

Think Act Lead encourages elected officials and candidates to pledge themselves to these reforms!
  1. We must all recognize, as did Abraham Lincoln and Franklin D. Roosevelt, that political leadership is first and foremost about possessing moral character and displaying moral courage.

  2. We must elect leaders who will make the tough decisions to benefit our communities and our country.

  3. We must all work to restore America’s standing in the eyes of our allies and the international community.

  4. We must all remember Martin Luher King’s view that an injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

  5. We must all recognize that much focus has been placed on the notion of peace through strength, but we must also advocate the message of strength through peace.

  6. We all know that Congress gives themselves universal healthcare coverage, but denies it to the rest of us; they have multiple retirement plans but want to meddle in our Social Security; members of Congress have repeatedly raised their own salaries but refuse to increase minimum wage; Congress enjoys the franking privilege (free mail) but does not extend the same benefits to families struggling to ship parcels to their loved ones serving in war zones. We suggest the new adage that, if it is good enough for members of Congress, then it is good enough for everyone else.

  7. We must elect leaders who have demonstrated a lifelong commitment to volunteering and community service, and bring that commitment to the forefront of their work in politics.

  8. We must elect leaders who prioritize constituent service.

  9. We must elect leader who will reach out across party lines to work for all the people.

  10. We must elect leaders who always respect the public enough to tell the truth.
