10 Innovations On National Security

Think Act Lead encourages elected officials and candidates to pledge themselves to these reforms as part of a "Voter's Bill of Rights on Security!"
  1. Lead the international community in nuclear non-proliferation by honoring non-proliferation and test-ban treaties, ending our own nuclear testing, and closing loopholes permitting nuclear programs under the guise of them being for "civilian" purposes.
  2. To maintain the strongest military in the world, we must prepare for future conflicts by reforming the armed forces, increasing our special forces, and prioritizing rapid response efforts.
  3. To maintain the strongest military in the world, we must keep the National Guard at home where they are needed and improve training opportunities for the Guard.
  4. To maintain the strongest military in the world, we must be "PRO-soldier" by offering better pay, housing, death benefits, and healthcare to our soldiers. We are outraged that veterans’ benefits and healthcare are being cut and our leaders failed to provide our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan proper body armor and armor for their humvees.
  5. Our leaders must end their myopic focus on Iraq, North Korea, and Iran, and consider the looming threat posed by China's global quest for energy, natural resources, and markets as well as some of the disturbing sings emerging from Vladimir Putin's new Russia (which is increasingly resembling the old USSR).
  6. We must finally secure the homeland by securing our transportation systems, infrastructure, border, and ports.
  7. Provide first responders – fire fighters, police officers, EMTs, and hospitals – the necessary training, equipment, and support they need to do their jobs.
  8. War in Iraq has diverted our attention from the real mission of eliminating terror cells around the world, securing the homeland, and preventing the proliferation of WMDs. We are on record as opposing the invasion from the start, and we advocate an immediate disengagement.
  9. We must recognize that Iran has always been the more pressing threat than Iraq and we must act to prevent further development of Iran’s nuclear program. We must reform the intelligence gathering, sharing, and analysis functions.
